Campbell-Gillard, who was injured in his back, returned to Fiji on February 10, 2017 to play for the World All Stars against Indigenous All Stars. He started at prop in the loss at Hunter Stadium of 34-8. Campbell-Gillard was in great form when the Panthers rose up the ladder to make it to the finals series, winning 11 of 13 matches. At the 2017 Dally M Awards Night, Campbell- Gillard was presented with the inaugural Dally M Interchange player of the year award. Campbell-Gillard had his best season to date, playing in 26 Panthers matches and scoring 3 try in the 2017 NRL season. Campbell-Gillard received the Merv Cartwright medal as the Panthers Player-of-the-Year on 4 October 2017. Campbell-Gillard was originally scheduled to represent Fiji at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup. However, Campbell-Gillard was able to be called up to the Australia Kangaroos 24-man team on 5 October 2017. This was after Andrew Fifita left to play for Tonga. Campbell-Gillard played off the interchange bench during the 18-4 victory at AAMI Park on 27 October 2017. On 14 September 2019, Campbell-Gillard was granted a release by Penrith to take up a 5-year deal with the Parramatta Eels that would end in 2024. Campbell-Gillard later spoke of his move to Parramatta saying “I’ve known this club for nearly 10 years. You want to be a one-club man, but we’re in a business that doesn’t allow you for it, I’m nervous, excited, but sad at the same time, to move on, It was one of those years that I really want to forget, I really hated rugby league this year. It’s just been a frustrating year.
