After appearing in 43 games during his second season in the Wings’ 2014-15 season, Kaunisto was traded by the Wings to the Evansville IceMen in March 2015. He was then transferred to the Florida Everblades the following day to complete the season.

Kaunisto signed on August 21st 2013 with the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps. This team is an affiliate of Winnipeg Jets. Kaunisto, however, spent most of the 2012-13 season in the ECHL, with a lower tier affiliate, Colorado Eagles.
