Rashid Mahazi was born in Melbourne (Victoria), Australia, on 20 April 1992, to an Australian mother, and a Kenyan father. As a child, Mahazi started playing soccer for Monash City. His father was the coach. Mahazi took a break from soccer after the death of his father during the 2016-17 A-League seasons.

Mahazi was a substitute for Daniel Georgievski, a Macedonian teammate, in the 86th minutes of Melbourne Victory’s first season. This match was against Western Sydney Wanderers on October 10, 2014. Mahazi made 18 more appearances for Melbourne Victory during the A-League season. Two of these were starts and two of them were full ninety-minutes. There were thirteen substitution appearances. Mahazi’s grand final debut came the week later on 17 May 2015 against Sydney FC, being substituted on for Gui Finkler at the 87th minute.
