Randall Max Ready, born January 8, 1960, is a former professional baseball pitcher and currently manages the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Ready was a utility player in the major Leagues from 1983 to 1995. In 1996, he also spent one season in Japan with the Chiba Lotte Marines. He was the minor league coach of the Detroit Tigers, and he also served as the Padres’ minor league coach.

Ready was a manager with the Oneonta Tigers from 2002-2003. He was awarded the New York-Penn League Manager Award. The Tigers achieved a 47-27 record (.635) and the division title 2002. Ready was back in the San Diego Padres minor- league system, and he managed the Fort Wayne Wizards (Class AA, Fort Wayne, Indiana) between 2004 and 2006. Ready was appointed manager of the San Antonio Missions (Class A, San Antonio, Texas) in 2007 for their first season as part of the San Diego Padres. Ready led the team to a record of 73-66 (.525) and the Texas League title. Ready was appointed manager of the Portland Beavers (Class A, Portland, Oregon) on December 14, 2007. This position he held until he was promoted to hitting coach for the San Diego Padres in July 31, 2009. Ready was considered a candidate for the Houston Astros’ next manager position after the 2009 season. However, Brad Mills took the job.

On November 12, 2012, Ready was hired to be the next manager for the Atlanta Braves’ Triple-A affiliate, Gwinnett. He was replaced by Brian Snitker on October 14, 2013.

In 2012, he was the Texas Rangers’ minor league hitting coordinator.

Ready was about to complete a rare, unassisted triple play on April 28, 1991. Ready was thrown out first baseman Ricky Jordan after he caught a Tony Gwynn line drive. This was the Phillies’ first triple play in Veterans Stadium history.
