Rafic Nahra was born January 27, 1959 in Ismailia Egypt to a Lebanese couple. He moved to France in his 20s to get a doctorate of engineering from the Ecole des Ponts et Chaussees in 1985. He also held a two-year position at the Geodia Institute.

He served six months per year as vicar at Parish Saint-Augustin. In addition to teaching and leading the research department “Judaism & Christianity” at College des Bernardins, Paris, he also spent six months in pastoral ministry at Saint James Vicariate. While completing a Doctorate of Philosophy in Judeo- Arabic literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he was also a doctoral student. He remained focused on his doctoral studies from 2011 to 2014.

On October 21, 2017, the Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, appointed him as Patriarchal Vicar for the Saint James Vicariate for the Hebrew speaking Catholics in Israel and, from Pentecost 2018, as Patriarchal Vicar for the Migrants and Asylum seekers in Israel

When Father David Neuhaus resigned from his office as patriarchal vicar in September 2017, he was appointed to replace him as coordinator for the Pastoral of Migrants

He returned to Jerusalem in 2004 to complete a Master’s degree in Jewish Thought from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He served the Maronite Parish in Jerusalem during this time and began his pastoral work at Saint James Vicariate of the Hebrew Speaking Catholics until 2007.
