As of 2002, Stowe was contacted by Bishop El Paso to manage the Diocesan Chancery and to serve as the Vicar General of the Diocese. Stowe was later appointed the chancellor of the Diocese. In 2010 he was elected to be the Vicar Provincial of his Province. the Vicar Provincial. He was then appointed Rector at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio, which is run through the Friars of the Province.

John Eric Stowe, O.F.M. Conv., (born April 15 in 1966) is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church currently serving as the third Bishop of the Diocese of Lexington in Kentucky.

Stowe later decided to pursue Seminary education in The Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California. He was awarded the master of divinity degree and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology, having emphasized his studies on the history of the Church. He was ordained an ordained priest on the 16th of September of 1995. Following this appointment, he was commissioned to his Province to be a priest in the churches within El Paso, Texas.

In February, 2018, Bishop Stowe joined the Pax Christi USA Board as their Episcopal President.
