In September 1999, he was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an amateur-free agent. After he played the 2000 season with the Yokohama BayStars, the Red Sox released him. They then signed him again as a free agent in 2000. After completing the time required to obtain free agency, he was again granted free agency in October 2001.
After missing the 2002 season, he signed as a minor-league free agent with the Cleveland Indians. He made his Major League debut against the Chicago White Sox on July 13, 2003. He pitched 33 games for the Indians and had an ERA 2.13.
