From 2014 to 2018, she was a member the Victorian Legislative Council representing the Western Metropolitan Region of the Democratic Labour Party (2014-2018), Australian Conservatives(2017-2018) as well as an independent (2018). At the 2018 election, she did not contest her Legislative Council seat. Instead, she unsuccessfully contested the seat of Werribee in the Legislative Assembly.
At the 2014 state election, she was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council’s Western Metropolitan Region as a member of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP). Carling-Jenkins joined Cory Bernardi’s Australian Conservatives on 26 June 2017. Carling-Jenkins stated that he believed it was time for minor parties, parties with like-minded views, to unify because the conservative vote is fractured. After the Australian Conservatives announced that it would not be contesting the Victorian election in 2018, Carling-Jenkins resigned from the Australian Conservatives on 3 August 2018.
Carling-Jenkins revealed that her ex-husband was convicted and sentenced to prison for possessing child pornography. She described her shock at finding the material on her husband’s computer and how she reported him to police.
