Pramila Patten (born 29 June 1958) is a Mauritian-British barrister, women’s rights activist, and United Nations official, who currently serves as the United Nations Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations; she was appointed in 2017. Her office was established in Security Council Resolution 1888 by Hillary Clinton. She succeeded Margot Wallstrom, Zainab Bangura.
She visited Bangladesh in November 2017 to interview survivors of persecution in Myanmar against Rohingyas.
That same month, she welcomed the Elsie Initiative to help increase women’s participation in peacekeeping operations in a joint statement with fellow UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women Phumzile Mlambo- Ngcuka.
From 2003 to 2017, Patten was a member the United Nations Committee on the Elimination Of Discrimination Against Women and served as the committee’s vice-chairperson.

Pramila Patten received a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.). At the University of London, Pramila Patten obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). Between 1993 and 2002, she was part of the International Women’s Rights Action Watch. From 2000 to 2004, she was a consultant for the Ministry of Women’s Rights, Child Development and Family Welfare.
Patten was elected as a member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women in 2003. At times, she served as the committee’s vice chairperson. In 2017, she resigned from the committee and on 12 April 2017, she was appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres as Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict with the rank of Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.
