He was previously the Power Secretary of India and the Shipping Secretary before that.
P.K. Sinha, Cabinet Secretary of the Union Government, headed the selection committee. Sinha was responsible for shortlisting candidates for the Reserve Bank India governorship after Raghuram Rajan’s September 2016 term ended. With effect from 4th September 2016, Urjit Patel was elected Governor of RBI.
On August 30, 2019 Sinha was appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Prime Minister’s Office. On 11 September 2019, he is appointed as Principal Advisor to Prime Minister of India, Narendra Damodardas Modi. His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further announcement, whichever is earlier.
The ACC appointed Sinha as the Cabinet Secretary of India in May 2015. Ajit Seth was his successor. He was an officer of special (OSD) in the Cabinet Secretariat, and held the rank of secretary until Seth retired. Seth officially took over as Cabinet Secretary on the 13th of June 2015.
