Her critiques of social phenomena, from cultural development to gender and human rights, are well-known in the Chinese-language community. Ms. Lu is a well-known Taiwanese novelist, columnist and commentator.
Ms. Lu resigned from her position at Kwang Hwa Information and Cultural Center December 2009, but she continues to promote cultural and economic exchanges between Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Her most popular literary work was “Love and Revolution”, a Chinese title: Xing Dao Tian Ya; the Chinese version was first published in 1995. Columbia University Press published the English version in 2006. Ms. Lu reimagines Sun Yat-sen’s and Soong-Ching-ling’s lives, a famous couple in modern China. She explores their marital relationships, their failures, and their desires. She also discusses Sun Yatsen’s political career, and Soong Chong-ling’s loneliness and isolation after her husband’s death. Perry Link highlighted this in his article “Chinese Shadows”, published by The New York Review on November 16, 2006. Ms. Lu also attempts to locate in Soong Chong-ling the “person buried beneath all the layers of image making” and “reconstruct an credible portrait” about the famous woman. He said that Ms. Lu was able to show Qingling’s everyday and sometimes troubling details. Although she may not be completely accurate, she writes honestly and with depth.

Ms. Lu graduated with a Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa from the Department of Psychology at National Taiwan University. She was a statistician in the United States and won the first prize for her short story, “Death in a Cornfield”, in the 1983 United Daily News fiction contest. She was also awarded a number of prizes for her other works, including a prose prize and a dramatic composition prize. She published “When will you come again?” in 2002, a novel about the tragic death of Teresa Teng, a well-known Taiwanese singer. (Chinese title: He Ri Jun Zai Lai ).
Before becoming the Kwang Hwa Information and Cultural Center director in January 2003, Ms. Lu was an editor for The China Times. She spent many years lecturing about feminism, cultural critique, and news commentary at Taipei National University of the Arts and National Taiwan University of the Arts. For a few years, she also served as Taiwan’s ambassador-at-large.
Her more recent works includes fiction “The River Darkens” (Chinese title: 黑水; published in 2015) and autobiographical essays collection “Heart Mandala” (Chinese title: 坦露的心; published in 2017).
