Peter Bossman is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on November 2, 1955 in Accra, Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Bossman was born in Accra which was the capital city of Ghana (then called The Gold Coast), on 2 November 1955. Bossman was from a wealthy family. He was the son of a political figure and also a close personal physician and friend of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s president since the country’s independence. Bossman was a frequent visitor to early years living in North Africa, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, where his father was instrumental in the establishment of Ghanaian embassies.

Bossman was a former council member on the Piran City Council, successfully run for mayor in the year 2010 narrowly beating his rival, incumbent, independent centre-right city mayor Tomaz Gantar. In the run-off vote on the 24th of October got 51.4 percent of the vote over Gantar who scored 48.4 percent. Unofficial numbers following the count of all ballots indicated Bossman getting 3418 votes. That’s which is 185 greater than Gantar’s 3233. cast by Gantar. The low turnout of 44% of the people who voted, was condemned in both campaigns.

Bossman’s campaign focused on encouraging people to drive electric cars, building a golf course to promote tourism, and promoting local products. He has also pledged to work to try to improve Croatia–Slovenia relations, which have been recently strained over a number of minor border disputes. Bossman has stated that race was not much of an issue during the election, although he did receive criticism on account of his supposed lack of fluency in Slovene. He has stated that a friend, a professor of Slovene, has offered to give him additional lessons.

Bossman was re-elected for a second term as mayor on 19 October 2014.

Bossman officially assumed office in the first (constitutive) session of the council’s municipal meeting on the 12th of November 2010. The ceremony of his inauguration was attended by more media members and international media than council members in attendance.

Peter Bossman (born 2 November 1955) is a Ghanaian born Slovenian physician and politician. He was the mayor of Piran which is a municipal and city located in Slovenian Istria located in south-western Slovenia. As a member of the center-left Social Democrats, he defeated the incumbent mayor Tomaz Gantar in the mayoral election , becoming Slovenia’s first mayor of color. In 2011, he was named as a member of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union.

Following a coup in 1966, which was able to see members of the National Liberation Council overthrow Nkrumah’s elected government, Bossman was forced to quit Ghana. He was not able to go to Britain and where he initially planned to pursue studies and thus decided to go to Yugoslavia initially hoping to pursue his studies in Belgrade. He was eventually transferred to Ljubljana but he arrived as an medical student in the then called the Socialist Republic of Slovenia, inside Yugoslavia in 1977. He claims that the time he “fell in love” with Slovenia upon arrival in the country, and was amazed to find the country “clean and green”. While studying and working in the political arena, he was also active, leading an African student group.

Bossman’s election as mayor has attracted international attention. In addition to becoming Slovenia’s first black mayor, he has also been described as being probably the first black person to become a mayor in the former Yugoslavia as well as in the former Eastern Bloc (although Slovenia as a part of Yugoslavia was only part of the Eastern Bloc briefly until the Tito–Stalin Split, which led to the eventual formation of the Non-Aligned Movement). He has also been widely compared to U.S. President Barack Obama, being dubbed by the media as the ‘Obama of Piran’. Bossman has, however, insisted he has no political ambitions beyond the mayoralty, having stated that he intends to return to medicine upon leaving office.
