Pete Hylton is also the writer of two volumes: Ghost Tracks: A Historical Study of the America’s Lost Road Racing Tracks and Sports Car Club of America 60 Years in Pictures.
Hylton began his journey at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis in 2003 as an associate member of the faculty in the MET Department of the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI. He was appointed an associate professor in 2004 director of this department’s Motorsports Technology programme. He received his second degree in graduate school with an M.S. Applied & Industrial Mathematics from IUPUI.
After stepping down from his post at the board of directors, Mr. was appointed the duties of a an archivist and historian on a volunteer basis for the world’s biggest active motorsports association. Since 1996, he’s taken care of and organized documents, photographs of racing information, as well as items that have accumulated over sixty-two years. Through his work, Hylton became a contributing writer for SportsCar the magazine that is published by the SCCA.

As a race driver for the past more than 25 years Hylton has been involved in his local chapter of the Sports Car Club of America since 1973. In January 2007, he was awarded the highest award of the SCCA, the Woolf Barnato Prize, in recognition of his dedication to the organization. Hylton was a member of the SCCA board of directors for nine years, is the youngest elected member of the body.
Hylton graduated with a summa cum loupe in 1979 from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, he went into the field as a testing engineer at General Motors Alison Gas Turbines in Indianapolis. In the end, he earned his M.S.M.E. as part of an General Motors Graduate Fellowship at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. After finishing his graduate degree, Pete continued his career in the company of Alison (which was acquired in 2003 by Rolls Royce) until 2003.
Born in Indianapolis, he and his wife Wendy live in Brownsburg, Indiana with their three daughters. In 2007, they converted the historic Grandison Eaton house, which was built in the 1860s and is one of Hendricks County’s historic buildings, to a Bed and Breakfast.
