Ganchar was to be named the as the head coach for the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League prior to the beginning for the 2001-02 season. Ganchar had a record of 68-53-18-5 in his time with the Chiefs before resigning at the conclusion of the 2001-02 season.
Ganchar was selected at 113th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. After being shuffled among Blues, minor league affiliates and Blues as well as their Minor League affiliates for the course of two years, Ganchar was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Ron Flockhart on 26 August 1985.
Ganchar retired from active play after spending the 1995-96 season with the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League and pursued a career in coaching.
Ganchar remained with the Lumberjacks as an assistant coach, before being promoted to the head coach during the 1997-98 season. Ganchar would leave the team following the 1999-2000 season.
Ganchar had a successful junior season with his local team, the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League. The 1982-83 season was when Ganchar scored scores of 68 goals and assisted 48 points for 116 in the 68 games played on an team that also had the future NHL player Brian Skrudland, Lane Lambert, Joey Kocur, Dale Henry and Trent Yawney on the roster.

Perry Kenneth Ganchar (born October 28th in 1963) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played in 42 games of the National Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
