While on Maine Road he also earned one cap for the England “B” team. He was named player of year by the team during both the 1980-81 and during the 1984-85 campaign. He took City out to Wembley three times, but never played in a winning squad. In his debut as a season as a player of the year campaign, City played at Wembley for a match against Tottenham Hotspur in the 100th FA Cup Final.

He scored in all but two rounds of the competition in the fifth round, with the match with Peterborough United and the Wembley matches against Spurs being two of them. The free-kick he scored in the 100th minute in the match against Ipswich Town at Villa Park was, in Power’s words, the most significant goal he’s ever scored for City. In the 1984-85 campaign, Power led City to promotion with style under Billy McNeill by robbing Charlton Athletic 5-1 at Maine Road on the 11th of May 1985.

His first team chances were more limited in the 1987-88 season, when Everton finished fourth under new manager Colin Harvey after the departure of Howard Kendall to Atletico Bilbao, and at the end of the season he retired to join the club’s coaching staff. However, he was axed by the club in November 1990 when Howard Kendall took over as manager for the second time.
