Patrik Schumacher is one of the most popular and richest University Teacher who was born on August 30, 1961 in Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Patrik Schumacher (born 1961) is an architect and an architectural theorist who is based in London. He is the founder of the architecture firm Zaha Hadid Architects.

Schumacher is a prolific author of his theoretical writings in architectural magazines as well as anthologies since 1996, advocating for an expansion of space and formal design vocabulary as a response of architecture to the increasing society’s complexity and dynamism created through the socio- economic shift between Fordism into Post-Fordism. Schumacher has also provoked controversy for his free market principles against housing socialization regulations for housing and centralised urban planning systems. His views are in line with anarchocapitalism, and are in favour total decentralisation and the radical privatisation of every aspect of the development of architecture, planning, and design.

In 2011, Schumacher published the first volume of The Autopoiesis of Architecture, which he called his “opus magnum”, claiming to offer a “New Framework for Architecture”, followed by the second volume, subtitled A New Agenda for Architecture in 2012.

Schumacher began the teaching profession in 1993, when he taught a post- graduate diploma on architecture and design in Kingston University. He has worked along with Zaha Hadid to instruct advanced architecture workshops across the United States, including Columbia University, Harvard Graduate School of Design, University of Illinois at Chicago and from 2002 to 2016 five times at the Yale School of Architecture. From 1994 until 1996, Schumacher was an assistant Professor at the Technical University of Berlin (TU). In 1996, he established (with Brett Steele) the Design Research Laboratory (AADRL) located at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London which he continues to teach. From 2000 until 2015, the pair was a part of Zaha Hadid to teach an introductory master class offered at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and is currently an honorary professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. From 2004 to 2014 , he was an instructor in the Institute for Experimental Design at the Innsbruck University. In 2013, Schumacher taught the design Studio (with Marc Fornes) as the John Portman Chair in Architecture at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design.

After graduating from high education In Gerlingen, Germany, Schumacher was a student of Philosophy along with Mathematics in Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn in the early 1980s. In the mid-eighties, Schumacher took a course in architectural design in Stuttgart and, in 1987, began his study with London Southbank University. In 1988, still a student Schumacher began working in the studio design of Zaha Hadid who was involved in developing the Vitra Fire Station, the first constructed project by Hadid. In 1990, he returned University of Stuttgart to complete his Diploma in Architecture. Since the incorporation of the firm in mid-90s Schumacher was a director at Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) and is recognized as the firm’s co-author and partner of the firm’s work. After the death of Hadid in April of 2016 Schumacher has been the sole director of the company as the one remaining partner.

Schumacher uses the term “parametricism” to denote the use in architecture of advanced computational design techniques. In 2008 he launched a manifesto for “parametricism” at the Venice Biennale of Architecture and a year later published the article “Parametricism: A New Global Style for Architecture and Urban Design” in the journal Architectural Design. This article was widely and controversially discussed and remains the most-downloaded article in the online archive of this theory-focused architectural journal.
