At the age of 18 Mailata participated in Guiyang in Guiyang’s China Open boxing event. He received a bronze medal, after losing the his local Chinese boxer Yusufu Akepaer in the semi-final. After winning national competitions, Mailata received financial backing from a company that promotes sports, Duco Events. The company allowed him to participate at international tournaments, such as The Gee Bee Tournament in Finland and the 52nd Winner Tournament in Serbia where the winner was awarded a gold and bronze medal. Also, he was a participant in this year’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games. In the next the same year Mailata lost to Australian Joe Goodall in the Oceanian Championships super-heavyweight gold medal final. A second-place finish placed him as one of the four New Zealanders to qualify to participate in an AIBA World Boxing Championships in Qatar. He fell in the first round of his game with Rafael Lima of Brazil.

Patrick Pakuliki Mailata (/m ^ I’l a T a born 31 December 1994) is a Samoan born, New Zealand raised professional boxer. When he was an amateur boxer, he was able to win three New Zealand national elite championships between 2012 and 2014 as well as winning a silver medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

After signing a promotional agreement with Epic Sports and Entertainment in June 2019, it was announced he would make his United States debut in Las Vegas. Mailata remained unbeaten after winning a second consecutive first-round knockout victory over Daniel Felix Franco in his first fight overseas. The following month Mailata fought on the opening undercard bout of Cody Crowley versus Mian Hussain on UFC Fight Pass in Peterborough, Canada. He then fought during December in Bulgaria against Ukrainian Pavlo Krolenko.
