Ammann was traded to D.C. United in exchange for Richie Williams, and an allocation prior to the 2001 MLS season. However, injuries kept him from playing and he was forced to retire after not playing one minute in 2002. Ammann was permanently disabled because his doctor hadn’t performed the procedure before. Ammann has disabilities in both his left and right arms and hands. A jury in D.C. Diallo was not punished. Ammann had to miss the remainder of the regular season and returned for the playoffs, where he shut out the Chicago Fire by 2-0.
