Secretary of Defense Donald Trump appointed Shanahan to this post following the resignation of retired General James N. Mattis. Shanahan was the deputy Secretary of Defense from 2017 until the year 2019. He also worked for 30 years working for Boeing in various jobs.
Shanahan began working for Boeing in 1986 and was engaged the company’s Computer Services and the Boeing 777 program. Through the course of his work, he was in managerial positions in relation to his role in the Boeing Missile Defense Systems, along with 747, 737 the 777, 777, and 787, which are commercial airline programs. He also played a part in leading the revival of Boeing’s 787 programme, and was also known by the name of “Mr. Fix-it” from the beginning of the year 2008.
