Pasqualino “Pat” Cortina (born 4 September 1964) is an Italian Canadian ice hockey coach who has coached numerous national and club teams across Europe in the past decade. He is currently the head coach for the Grizzlys Wolfsburg in Germany.
After the 15th World Championships he did not get any contract renewal with the German Ice Hockey Federation renewed.
After these results Cortina’s contract with EHC Munchen was extended to 2012 and, following an impressive 2011-11 DEL season, two years more until 2014. The year 2012 was the first time Cortina became the coach of Germany’s national team. German national team, and signed an agreement for three years. Cortina is a native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Cortina has been a coach for in the Italian national team, as also Serie A teams HC Varese and HC Asiago. Cortina has coached Hungarian Ice Hockey Club Alba Volan Szekesfehervar from 2003 until 2006. (winning three times the Hungarian Nationwide Championship 3 time), German team EHC Munchen in 2006-07 , and HC Innsbruck of the Austrian Hockey League in 2007-08. From 2003 until 2009, Cortina also coached for the Hungarian national team that was able to reach the top division of the IIHF World Championships in 2008 under Cortina’s leadership at first in 70 years.
As of 2008 Cortina was back with EHC Munchen and led EHC Munchen to a second- place finishing in 2008’s 2nd Bundesliga season. In 2010 Cortina as well as his squad took home both the German Cup and the 2nd Bundesliga championship, which earned them a promotion to Bundesliga Deutsche Eishockey.
In April 2016, the Schwenninger Wild Wings of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) appointed Cortina as their new head coach. He was sacked in late October 2018, after collection only seven points in the first 15 games of the 2018-19 season. Cortina signed with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg in March 2019, taking over the head coaching job at the DEL team at the beginning of the 2019-20 season.
