Onome Sodje is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on July 17, 1988 in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. Onome Sympson Sodje (born 17 July 1988) is an Nigerian footballer who is striker. He has been a professional player for clubs in England, Slovakia, Malta, Vietnam, Algeria and Albania.
Sodje was signed by Championship Team Barnsley on the 15th of June 2009. The club allowed him to transfer for free as he was currently playing for York on an uncontracted basis. The reason for his contract status was a result of his absence of a valid work permit, which was connected to a pending disagreement with the immigration authorities regarding his rights to live at home in the UK. York paid PS5,000 in legal fees to help fight his case , which also earned the attention by the Archbishop York John Sentamu and MP Hugh Bayley. After gaining the right to remain in the country, he decided to relocate to Barnsley instead of signing the deal provided by York.
He made his debut as a 79th-minute substitute in a 2–0 defeat to Coventry City on 15 August. He joined Conference Premier leaders Oxford United on an emergency loan on 23 November and made his debut a day later as a substitute in a 1–0 victory over Forest Green Rovers. He scored his first goal in a 1–1 with Salisbury City, which put Oxford in the lead on 79 minutes. Oxford confirmed his loan would not be extended in January 2010. He joined Slovak Superliga team FK Senica in January, scoring a header on his debut in a 2–1 victory over MFK Ružomberok in February. Sodje finished the 2009–10 season with one goal in 13 appearances. He made only appearance in the 2010–11 season, in a 0–0 draw at MŠK Žilina on 21 August. He later signed with Vietnamese First Division club Đồng Nai. Sodje joined Floriana of the Maltese Premier League in December and scored on his debut, a 4–2 victory over Ħamrun Spartans. In July 2012, he joined Algerian club CR Belouizdad, signing a three-year contract. He scored one goal in 13 games in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1, before being released at the end of the season.
In October 2014 he returned to England, signing for Nuneaton Town.
Sodje was signed by the fellow Conference Premier club York City on the 18th of June, 2007 on an unpaid transfer. He was the top goalscorer in York City’s top three teams with 17 goals during the season 2007/08. Sodje took home the inaugural Conference Premier Goal of the Month award in September of 2008 by scoring at Torquay United, which won by a margin of 30% votes. He made his debut as an 63rd minute substitute for the FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium on May 9th 2009, in which York was defeated 2-0 by Stevenage Borough. He was mostly on the bench after his performance declined during the 2008-09 season in which he made 7 goals and 46 appearances.

In Warri, Delta State, Sodje was a part of an Charlton Athletic youth system|. The striker scored 14 goals over 19 games during the 2003-04 U17 FA Premier Academy League. He was on loan with Welling United towards the end of the season 2004-05. Then he went for a loan period with Conference National team Gravesend & Northfleet in September 2005. He then returned to Gravesend for another time in the month of February.
He was let go in 2006 by Charlton in 2006, and later signed with Gravesend & Northfleet permanently in August.
