Lacy took home her Miss New Mexico USA 2006 title at a national pageant at Las Cruces, New Mexico in October 2005. It was her first time to be crowned. She was the first titleholder to be originally from Gallup, New Mexico and the first titleholder of Native American origin. Lacy was born in Navajo.

Lacy grew up in Gallup with her parents Rodney and Rena Lacy and has one older brother (Rodney Jr.) and one younger sister (Sheyenne). Onawa wed her husband, Zachary Haynes, on March 7, 2015 in Hau’ula, Hawai’i on O’ahu’s North Shore. The couple share one son.

Lacy was a contestant for her title as Miss USA in Baltimore, MD on the 21st of April in 2006. Onawa was on NBC’s popular game program Deal or No Deal as briefcase model #15 on The MTV’s Total Request Live; Fox New’s Dayside and the NBC Today show; Live! featuring Regis and Kelly, and The Morning Show. Onawa also appears in the pages with Kelly and Regis in Trump Magazine.

Bush on December 12th December, 2006. She was a student of Liberal Studies with an emphasis on International Government at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Onawa is the first college graduate in her family. Onawa completed her Juris Doctorate from the University of New Mexico School of Law in May 2012 and works as an attorney for criminal defense.

Lacy is a member of the Order of Omega Honor Society and has received a number of academic awards, including placement on the National Dean’s List, Clauve Outstanding Senior Award and American Indian Student Services Outstanding Senior Award. She is also a founding member of the Delta chapter of Alpha Pi Omega sorority at the University of New Mexico. In February 2007, Onawa was recognized by the New Mexico State legislators for her outstanding academic and community service work.
