Omar McLeod is one of the most popular and richest Hurdler who was born on April 25, 1994 in Kingston, Jamaica. Omar McLeod (born 25 April 1994) is an Jamaican professional sprinter and hurdler. He is currently the 110 meters hurdles Olympic and the former World champion. It has been the NCAA Indoor champion at the 60-meter hurdles during 2014 and in 2015. He was also the NCAA outdoors champion of the 110-meter hurdles of 2015 He made the transition to professional athletics following the 2015 season of collegiate competition, skipping the two years of eligibility for collegiate competition. His personal best of 110 meters obstacles (12.90 seconds) places him fifth on the all-time world list.
McLeod took home the 110m hurdles in the 2014 Jamaican Championships, defeating national record-holder Hansle Parchment by an official wind speed of 12.97 beating 13 seconds, the fastest time for the event for the first time. the time was the fastest in the world for a whole week. McLeod made his professional debut in the Istvan Gyulai Memorial in Szekesfehervar on July 7 and then was unable to finish due to cramps and was unable to finish.
McLeod returned to competition in 2015; he won the SEC indoor title in a personal best 7.49. At the 2015 NCAA indoor championships he repeated as champion, running 7.55 in the heats and 7.45 in the final; his time in the final was a new Jamaican indoor record, broke Reggie Torian’s NCAA record from 1997 and tied with Cuba’s Orlando Ortega for the world’s fastest time that winter. Outdoors, McLeod set a personal best of 13.21 at the Drake Relays and won at both the SEC meet and the West Regionals. He entered the NCAA outdoor championships in Eugene as the favorite; he won, running 13.08 in the heats and 13.01 in the final, but both times were wind-aided. Only two collegiate athlete, Renaldo Nehemiah in 1979, had run faster in any conditions. In addition to his hurdles victory, McLeod ran on the Arkansas relay teams in both the 4 × 100 m relay and the 4 × 400 m relay; Arkansas won the 4 × 100 m in 38.47 and placed sixth in the longer relay.
In the 2016 Rio Olympics, he won Gold in the 110m hurdles.
McLeod was not a runner indoors prior to moving into America. United States, but adapted quickly. He won the 60-meter hurdles as freshman in the 2013 NCAA indoor competition in Albuquerque with a personal best of 7.57 times in his heats, and 7.58 at the end of the competition. Outside, he finished second in the 110-meter obstacles at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships and West Regionals, but pulled an injury to his hamstring at the NCAA championships and did not make it to the final.

McLeod was a talented high school athlete, competing in the track for Manchester High School and later Kingston College; during his beginnings, he participated in the 110 100 m and 400 meters hurdles. McLeod represented Jamaica during the 2010 World Youth Championships in Lille and qualified for the finals of both hurdle events. He finished third in the 110 m hurdles, and eight in the 400 meters hurdles. The CARIFTA Games, he won the gold medal in the 400 m hurdles for under-20s for three years in a row (2011 2012, 2011 and 2013) and he also scored five gold medals at the 110m hurdles as well as the four-x 400 m relay. He also won the relay gold in 2013. He also was awarded medals in relay race at the 2012 CAC Junior Championships in San Salvador.
When he was in 2013, the last year at high school, McLeod established Jamaican junior record times in the 110 meters (13.24 seconds) and 400 meters obstacles (49.98 s) at the Boys and Girls Championships; he was the first Jamaican high schooler to surpass 50 s during the later. After finishing his studies at Kingston College, he went to the University of Arkansas on a track and field scholarship.
After the 2015 collegiate season McLeod turned professional and signed an endorsement deal with Nike, forgoing his two remaining years as an NCAA athlete; although he stayed at Arkansas to complete his business studies, he lost his eligibility to represent the Arkansas Razorbacks.
