Nuri Kino is one of the most popular and richest Journalist who was born on February 25, 1965 in Mardin, Mardin Province, Turkey. Nuri Kino, (born February 25, 1965, Mardin Province, Turkey), is a Swedish- Assyrian/Syriac award-winning investigative journalist, documentary filmmaker, author and human rights expert. He is the writer of numerous non-fiction books and hundreds of articles and stories of the Middle East, western and eastern Europe and Africa in the last two decades. He has received prizes for his reporting on human rights and has been the founder of the the human rights group A Demand For Action (ADFA) that advocates for persecuted minorities in Iraq Turkey, Syria, and elsewhere throughout Turkey, Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East.
Nuri Kino became the very first reporter to speak with Irena Sendler who was the Polish nurse who risked her life in order to transport the 2,500 Jewish children from the ghettos in Warsaw in World War II. The article was published by Dagens Nyheter, the Swedish weekly paper Dagens Nyheter on February 8 in 2003. The article was shortly after translated into other languages and it was published in Wprost the biggest weekly publication in Poland. In the year following the two Nobel Prize laureates, Wislawa Szymborska and Czeslaw Milosz, proposed Sendler to be awarded to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She was nominated for the prize a number of times before she passed away in the month of May of 2008, but did not win the award. But she was awarded a number of international and national awards for her heroism throughout her time in the Second World War.
With Erik Sandberg, Kino made Assyriska – landslag utan land (“Assyriska – national team without a nation”) for Sveriges Television. In 2006 it won the Golden Palm Award at the Beverly Hills Film Festival. With Jenny Nordberg he made the documentary The High Price of Ransom for Dan Rather Reports in 2008.
In 2007, Kino published By God – Sex dagar i Amman (By God – Six Days in Amman), a report on the consequences of the Iraqi war. In 2010 he wrote Still Targeted: Continued Persecution of Iraq’s Minorities, a report for Minority Rights Group International.
Together with Yawsef Ben Turo Kino created Det ohorda ropet (“The Cry Unheard,” 2001) which is about the murder of Assyrians in the southeast of Turkey in World War I.

Nuri Kino was the oldest of four children from an Assyrian/Syriac lineage that is derived from Kfar-Shomac situated to the south of the City of Midyat located in a region called by the Assyrians/Syriacs Tur Abdin. His parents emigrated into Germany for work in guest houses when he was just four In 1974, at the age of eight years old, they went to visit the grandparents of his parents at home in Sweden then decided to remain as there were more opportunities. He was kidnapped two times when he was a kid. In 1985, he was the first Swedish men to record medical information. He also owns an eatery; in 1994, he was voted as Stockholm’s most well-known restaurant’s owner.
In 1998 in 1998, he graduated from Poppius School of Journalism in Stockholm. The following year , he resided located in Istanbul at the time that the Marmara earthquake struck. The earthquake was covered by news organizations from around the world and also wrote a widely-cited report about the collapse of buildings considered to be fragile and this was the actual beginning of his professional life as journalist. He’s since been an investigative journalist on a freelance basis for Dagens Nyheter and Expressen, Aftonbladet and Metro. In 2002, he began freelancing on behalf of Sveriges Radio, a Swedish broadcaster Sveriges Radio. His coverage has been specifically focused on human rights, refugees and immigration issues, and he’s worked as a journalist in countries like Turkey, Denmark, Norway, Finland, the U.S. as well as in the Netherlands (reporting to the BBC as well as for Dit is de Dag, the Dutch show Dit is de Dag).

Nuri Kino also does aid work, sometimes with the Youth Initiative of the Syriac Orthodox Church. In 2014 he founded A Demand For Action (ADFA), an organization that provides relief and advocates for minorities in the Middle East, particularly Christians in Iraq and Syria. From this position, in his home town of Södertälje, Sweden, he has developed a global network of human rights experts and activists who serve as a deep resource on persecuted minorities in the Middle East, frequently sought out by national politicians, multinational organizations, the European Parliament and the United States Congress. In an interview, European Parliamentarian Lars Adaktusson said of Kino, ”If Nuri would not have started ADFA we would not be able to have the ongoing genocide of Christians in Iraq and Syria recognized as a Genocide in the European Parliament. We would probably not even be aware of it. Thanks to ADFA:s tireless work we have been able to even have the U.S. congress to recognize the atrocities as Genocide.”
