His sentence included 35 years (25 for murder and 10 for kidnapping) in prison.
Simons was arraigned before the court in 1995 for a single charge of kidnap and murder. The trial lasted for three months, which led to conviction and a life imprisonment. Simons is currently in the Drakenstein Maximum Correctional Facility, Paarl. Simons appealed the conviction in 1998 but the conviction was affirmed.

Simons has been believed to initiated his series of murders on the 29th of October, 1986. It ended after his arrest 9 years afterward in the month of April. Simons earned his nickname after it was revealed that the majority of his victims were taken from stations for trains (Soviet serial killer Andrei Chikatilo had a similar strategy).
Simons murdered and raped those he killed before strangling his victims before strangling them. The victims were found lying naked with their hands bound behind their backs placed in shallow graves of sand. In some cases , victims were found wrapped in their underwear tied around their necks, which could be being used to garrote them. Notes written by hand were also discovered on the bodies of some victims. Simons relationship with his stepbrother appears to have significant influence on his criminal actions. Simons says that his father’s stepbrother had raped and sexually assaulted his child. Simons also claims to have heard voices from his brother telling him to murder. Simons brother, who was who was a alcoholic, was killed in the year 1991.
In 2005, an inquest was opened into the deaths of the remaining victims. After three years of further analysis, the victims’ parents came no closer to an answer. On 9 December 2008, Regional Magistrate Marelize Rolle stated that she believed prima facie evidence showed Simons was probably responsible for the deaths of at least six of the other victims. However, due to the amount of time that had passed, she ruled out further prosecutions in the case.
