Nor Sanavongsay is one of the most popular and richest American writer who was born on February 28, 1975 in Mukdahan, Thailand. Nor Sanavongsay (Born February 28 1975) is an American illustrator and writer from the San Francisco Bay area and the creator of Sahtu Press, Inc.
He is actively involved as a volunteer for The SatJaDham Lao Literary Project, the National Lao American Writers Summit and Lao Artists Festival of Elgin, Lao Artists Festival of Elgin, Legacies of War, the Center for Lao Studies, the Lao Heritage Foundation, Laos in the House as well as the Kinnaly Dance Troupe, among many more. He established Sahtu Press, Inc. A non-profit publishing firm with the aim to spread Lao literature to the world.
He is the writer of the 2013 book for children called A Sticky Mess, which is based on the classic Lao folktales, specifically that depicting the mythological hero Xieng Mieng. In interviews , he said that it took 14 years to bring the book published and it has gone through numerous versions. He has also announced plans for five novels over the next 10 years. The first edition of the book’s release was funded by Kickstarter.

The Sanavongsay clan came from Laos to United States in the aftermath of the Laotian Civil War. Nor Sanavongsay initially resettled with his parents, a brother and a other sister within the city of Kingsport, Tennessee in 1979. He was just four year old at that at the time. They were supported by the First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport, Tennessee. In August 1979, they moved into Elgin, Illinois, where they would stay for the next 30 years.
He was a child of Transformers, Bruce Lee movies, Thundercats, and other cartoons from the 1980s. He also was fascinated with comics and graphic novels. At the tender age 6 with his uncle who was his guide. He developed his art abilities as time went through, and eventually attended Northern Illinois University to study to become an illustrator. He later switched his focus to web design and graduated in 1998. In 2010, he relocated into San Francisco and is currently living in Dublin, California with his wife and two kids.
