Fukuda began his time at Yokohama High School based on his ability to hit, and sat on the bench during spring the first semester of freshman. As the catcher, he’d later join a group together with Hideaki Wakui who was 2 years older than him, and along with other future pros, Takehiro Ishikawa qualified for the Japanese High School Baseball Championship. Although he was a regular player, since the first season, he was frequently replaced towards the conclusion of games in crucial circumstances. In the early in the junior season, he was placed at 4th place in the batsman’s order. In the 78th Japanese High School Baseball Invitational Tournament He was responsible for cleaning up together with Takuya Takahama along with Kenji Sato. He was the captain of the team that led them in winning the title as captain. In the summer of the similar year Yokohama High was expected to be the top contender to win the 1988 Summer Championship but where beaten by the team of Sho Nakata-led Osaka Toin High School 6-11 in the opening day of play , with Fukuda unable to score any hits.
In the 2008 spring camp, Fukuda became the roommate of Dragons legendary Masahiro Yamamoto. On the advice of the manager Hiromitsu Ochiai, he was advised to fully convert into first base. But, it didn’t lead to any first- team appearances. Other players from the class drafted by him Naomichi Donoue Kyohei Iwasaki, and Akinobu Shimizu all got a chance to play on the first team, which resulted in Fukuda to be the sole person in his class who did not make an appearance in the top squad. But, he did make more appearances in the farm team, batting 4th, demonstrating his progress by striking a single off the former Major Leaguer Kazuhisa Ishii during the autumn Phoenix League.
In 2010 open and practice games, Fukuda was entrusted at 4th in the line-up where he hit .316 with 7 homeruns however his season with the first team would end with only 15 appearances made.
After working well in the build-up to the 2011 season, he was on the opening day roster as a right-handed pinch-hitter. He continued as a pinch hitter from opening day and on 13 April, hit his second pro homerun off the pitching of Yokohama DeNA Baystars reliever Shintaro Ejiri. His form would continue and on 15 April he hit his 3rd pro homerun, once again as a pinch hitter, off the pitching of Hanshin Tigers reliever Kyuji Fujikawa. However, in the next 5 plate appearances he would fail to register a hit leading him to being dropped to the farm. He would return to the first team in October where he would make his first Japan Series appearance.
The team was praised for his career high school homeruns, he selected in the 3rd stage of the NPB Draft high school player round by the Chunichi Dragons and on 11 November, signed a provisional contract that included a Y=50,000,000 signing bonus as well as a Y=5,400,000 annual salary.
