Nina Karpachova (Ukrainian: Nina Ivanivna Karpachova born on August 12, 1957 Ceadir Lunga) is a Ukrainian politician and lawyer. She served as the Ukrainian Parliament’s Commissar for Human Rights from 1998 until 2012.
Between 1996 and in 1998 Karpachova served as vice president of The World Congress of Ukrainian Lawyers and was later appointed as the very first Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner to Human Rights. In 1999, she was appointed the chief of the National Coordination Council for the Prevention of Trafficking in Human Beings. She was a member of the European Ombudsman Institute in 1999 as well as the International Ombudsman Institute in 2000.
Karpachova has led a variety of parliamentary and government delegations from Ukraine to international and European conferences regarding human rights issues. In 1995, she coordinated parliamentary hearings to help Ukraine ratify the process under the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. At her suggestion, it was established that the National Centre of the Adoption of Orphan Children was set up in 1996, under the Ministry of Education.
