Nigel Gaffey (born 5 January 1970) is a Australian former player in the Australian rugby league who played during the 1990s and 2000s. He played at the club level as a player for Canberra Raiders, the Sydney City Roosters as well as the South Queensland Crushers and the Penrith Panthers, as a second-row player and a lock. He is the father of the former Cronulla Sharks player Len Gaffey.
The year 1999 saw Gaffey was signed by his first team, the Penrith Panthers. Gaffey was a part of the initial eight games of the season 2000 before declaring his retirement. He played in 177 games with 37 attempts and one goal.
In 1996, with co- Roosters Jason Hudson, Graham Mackay, Clinton O’Brien and Mark Protheroe, Gaffey joined the unlucky South Queensland Crushers. Although he played in twenty in their games, The Crushers finished with the wooden spoon. Gaffey quit the Crushers at the close in the season of 1996. The following year, Gaffey returned to the Roosters. After his second stint with the Roosters they became more dominant in the contest. They changed from being an easybeats (having not had any finals in the last year since 1987) to the title race. Between 1997 and 1998 they came just one game from winning their first appearance in the grand final since 1980. They lost both of their preliminary finals to Manly Sea Eagles and the Brisbane Broncos respectively. Gaffey quit his Roosters at the close of 1998’s season.

A Canberra junior Gaffey made his grade debut with the Raiders as a substitute in their loss to the Cronulla Sharks at Seiffert Oval in the 16th round in the season of 1989. Gaffey was the replacement for wounded Bradley Clyde in the Raiders winning against their opponents the Penrith Panthers in the 1990 Grand Final. Gaffey’s tenure with Raiders ended with the conclusion of the 1991 season.
Gaffey began playing for his first team in Eastern Suburbs in 1992, and during an uneven season for the Roosters, results with the Roosters, Gaffey starred, playing in all 22 games and scoring 8 tries. He ended with the squad’s top scorer, along with other Roosters who were newcomers to the club in 1992 Gary Freeman and David Seidenkamp. Gaffey also played a prominent role in the Roosters 1993 season He participated in all 22 games scoring 9 tries, and ended the season as the top scorer for the team by himself. Gaffey was also selected for the Country Origin side in the 1993 City match against Country Origin match. After a couple of disappointing seasons in 1994 and 1995 , in which the Roosters were ranked ninth and 14th respectively Gaffey was forced to quit the Roosters at the close in the season 1995.
