Nicolas Bacri was born in Paris, France. His musical training started with lessons in piano when he was seven. He continued to study harmony, counterpoint analysis , and composition when he was an adult with Francoise Levechin-Gangloff as well as Christian Manen. In 1979, he began studying with Louis Saguer. The year 1979 was the time that Bacri was admitted to at the Conservatoire de Paris where Bacri studied alongside Claude Ballif, Marius Constant, Serge Nigg, and Michel Philippot.
Following his graduation in 1983, with the first prize of composition in 1983, the composer enrolled at in the French Academy in Rome. In Paris He was employed during four consecutive months (1987-91) as director of Chamber Music for Radio France. Bacri was the one to organize the very debut performance of the entire 15 string quartets of Shostakovich (1989-90 season ) with the Manhattan String Quartet as a celebration of the end of the the cold war) within France and also included at the premiere in France the top composers of Terezin: Pavel Haas, Gideon Klein, Hans Krasa and Viktor Ullmann. Since then, he’s focused on composition for free receiving orders from major institutions and festivals across the globe. Bacri instructed orchestration in the Geneva Conservatory (HEM/HES) from 2005 until the year 2011. He frequently gives masterclasses on composition in France as well as abroad (in USA: Rochester Eastman School of music… Russia: Ekaterinburg Ural Academy and China: Beijing Conservatory). Bacri was commissioned to write important works in the most important musical fields such as opera, symphony the choral, vocal, concertante as well as chamber. In February of 2020, Riccardo Muti directed his Ophelia’s Tears Concertante Elegy, for Bass-clarinet, and orchestra Op. 150, featuring Soloist J. Lawrie Bloom, an order from Chicago Symphony Orchestra (Made possible by the kind support of Helen Zell)”The expressive and emotional composition for the bass clarinet (…) definitely defied the music styles of the modern time.” Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune. Bacri made his debut as conductor with the London Symphony Orchestra conducting the world premiere of his opus 130 titled A Day (Four Images for Orchestra) at L’Opéra of the Palace of Versailles in Paris on 8 September
