Ngonidzashe Makusha is one of the most popular and richest Sprinter who was born on March 11, 1987 in Zimbabwe. Ngonidzashe Makusha, a Zimbabwean long jumper and sprinter, was born 11 March 1987. He holds the national records for 100 m and Long Jump in Zimbabwe, with 9.89 seconds (+1.3 m/s), and 8.40 meters (0.0 m/s), respectively. These performances were made during the 2011 NCAA Division I Championships at Des Moines, Iowa. He also completed the double 100 m long jump. Makusha won the NCAA championships double 100 m and long jump. He was one of only five athletes to do so after his 2 gold medals win. DeHart Hubbard (1925), Jesse Owens (1935 & 1936), Carl Lewis (81), Jarrion Lawson (2016).

Makusha represented Zimbabwe at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He was able to secure a spot in the final round of the long jump competition with his 8.14m qualifying jump. His first jump was 8.19 metres in the final round. He was now in the lead up to the third round when Irving Saladino leapt 8.21 metres. Makusha’s performance was not better and he was overtaken in the third round by Godfrey Khotso Mokoena, Ibrahim Camejo and Ibrahim Camejo who leapt 8.24 metres and 8.20 metres, respectively. Saladino won with 8.34 metres, and Makusha finished fourth.

Makusha ran the 60m in 6.68 seconds in Blacksburg in January 2008-09, his personal best. He improved his time to 6.60 seconds in February, the same city. He also jumped an indoor national record of 8.21m.

Makusha began his career at Seke, Mandedza high school, Zimbabwe. In July 2006, Makusha was able to achieve decent results in several events in Windhoek. He jumped 7.87m in the long jump and ran the 100m in 10.64 seconds. The 200m was run in 21.57 seconds. He entered the 100m and long jump at the 2006 World Junior Championships. He reached the semi-final in the 100m, finishing with 10.84 seconds. He finished last in the long jump, but reached the final. He competed in the 2007 All-Africa Games. There, he was awarded a bronze medal in relay 4 x 100m. He also competed at 100m and long jump, with a time of 7.69m and 10.52 seconds respectively.

He enrolled at Florida State University for the indoor season 2007-08. He improved his long jump quickly, reaching 7.97 meters in March in Fayetteville. He broke the eight-metre barrier in May 2008, breaking the new Zimbabwean record of 8.16 meters in Tallahassee (Florida). He won the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa the following month. He set another record in Zimbabwe, this time 8.30 metres. He said that this was one of his dreams, and that it had just come true. This was the university’s first win in an individual event at the NCAA championships. It was also the stadium record and the best mark for the university.

In 2011, Makusha was named the men’s winner of The Bowerman which is awarded to the top collegiate track & field athlete of the year.
