A video of Hilborn’s poem, “OCD”, became viral in 2013 and was viewed millions of times across social media platforms. The performance of “OCD”, which was one of the first videos to be posted on Button Poetry’s YouTube channel in 2012, was not popularized until a second performance was uploaded a year later. The video has been viewed more than 62,000,000 times since 2012, and it is Button Poetry’s most viewed video and most viewed slam poem. The success of the poem led Hilborn to sign with the College Agency in 2014. Hilborn’s second book, Our Numbered Days, was released on May 14, 2015. The book is a collection of 45 poems. The book is divided into six different sections spanning the entire collection. Hilborn started writing poetry in 2009 and began competing/performing in slam poetry. Hilborn was part of the college’s slam poetry and Minneapolis Adult National Slam Poetry teams, which placed 5th of the 80 competitors in the 2011 competition. Hilborn started performing with Button Poetry, which is based in Minnesota, after he graduated. He travelled across the Midwest with Button poets Dylan Garrity, Hieu Nguyen and others on The Good News Poetry Tour in 2012. It visited small venues and colleges, before being redesigned in 2013 for a tour in the Northeast.

Hilborn left Houston shortly after graduating from high school to move to Saint Paul, Minnesota where he attended Macalester College. He began to write spoken word during his sophomore year. He joined the College National Poetry Slam team’s slam poetry team in 2011. Hilborn graduated with high honors and a degree as a Creative Writing writer. He plans to pursue his Master of Fine Arts in order to become a professor. He co-coach the Macalester slam poetry team for a little more than a year, and also ran several poetry workshops and went on a few Midwest tours.

Hilborn was born in Houston, Texas, and became interested in creative writing at an early age, writing his first poem when he was eight years old. As a child, he was diagnosed with obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), and he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder while in college. Though he did not originally use poetry as a coping mechanism, when he was a teenager his work shifted toward helping him deal with his disorders.
