He was named by the Nigeria Football Federation in August 2011 to be one the assistant coaches of the Golden Eaglets, the Nigerian under-17 football team. The team won silver in the CAF U-17 tournament, Algeria in 2013, and the FIFA U-17 World Cup, UAE in 2013.
Ugbade’s youth football career was a huge success. However, he suffered from injuries and poor form during his later years which prevented him from being able to play at the 1994 World Cup.

Ugbade, a youth player from St. Finbarrs College Akoka-Lagos was the captain of the Nigeria U-16 soccer team that won 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship. The tournament was later referred to as JVC/FIFA, but it changed to its current status, Coca-Cola/FIFA U-17 World Championship. It was held in China. Ugbade was made famous by Jonathan Akpoborie (5mns), and Victor Igbinoba (880+mns), who scored unreplied goals against West Germany. This was Nigeria’s and Africa’s first major win on the international football stage.
He was also part the Nigerian national under-20 football team that won silver medals in Saudi Arabia at the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship. Although Nigeria lost to Portugal in their final match, Ugbade and his team were the talk of the town after a series of impressive wins over Saudi Arabia, the USSR, and hosts Saudi Arabia. The Nigerian team won 4-4 against the USSR after overcoming a 4-0 deficit. Ugbade scored the fourth goal before Nigeria won on penalties. This victory is affectionately called the “Dammam Miracle” in Nigerian football history.
In 2013, Ugbade was named head coach of Lagos club MFM FC.
