However, he chose to forgo the bench press and short shuttle. Jones attended North Carolina’s Pro Day on March 13, 2017. He chose to do the 40-yard sprint (5.15s), 20 yard dash (2.99s), 10-yard run (1.77s), bench presses (18 reps), wide jump (8’10”) and short shuttle (4.64s). The NFL draft analysts and scouts projected Jones as the third round pick at the end of the predraft process. DraftScout.com ranked him the eighth-best defensive tackle prospect and Scouts Inc ranked him the 18th-best defensive tackle.

In the Seattle Seahawks’ opening game against the Green Bay Packers, Jones made his professional regular season debut. He recorded one tackle, intercepted a pass and returned an interception for touchdown in their 17-9 loss. Jones intercepted a pass from Aaron Rodgers (originally a screen pass for Lance Kendricks), and returned it for a touchdown of 64 yards in the first quarter. His touchdown was nullified by Cliff Avril’s penalty for an illegal block in his back during the return. The Packers refused to penalize cornerback Jeremy Lane for punching during the play. Jones was inactive on November 5, 2017 after Sheldon Richardson sustained an oblique injury. Jones received his first career start. Jones was credited with half of a sack and three combined tackles in the Seahawks’ 17-14 defeat to the Washington Redskins. Jones made his debut solo tackle the following week and recorded two solo tackles during Week 10, when he had his first solo sack. Jones’s first solo sack in his career was against Cardinals’ quarterback Drew Stanton, who lost eight yards in the fourth quarter. He had four combined tackles in Week 11 as the Seahawks lost to the Atlanta Falcons 34-31. The Seattle Seahawks placed Jones on injured reserve on December 30, 2017. Jones was inactive for four weeks (Weeks 13-16) after suffering a high ankle injury in Week 12. Jones finished his rookie season 2017 with 19 combined tackles (10 solo), three pass defenses and two sacks in 11 games. During training camp, Jones competed to be a starting defensive tackle against Shamar Stephen after it was left vacant by the departure of Sheldon Richardson. Head coach Pete Carroll named Jones the fourth defensive tackle on the depth chart to begin the regular season, behind Jarran Reed, Tom Johnson, and Shamar Stephen. Jones was inactive as a healthy scratch for the Seattle Seahawks’ 27–24 loss at the Denver Broncos in their season-opener. Jones was also inactive, as a healthy scratch, for the Seahawks’ 33–31 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5.
