Craig Levein, Scotland manager, called Davidson up to the full squad on 15 November 2010. He was to face the Faroe Islands during a friendly at Pittodrie (Aberdeen) 16 November 2010. He was also part of the Scotland squad that faced Brazil in March 2011 but did not make it. In November 2012, he was selected again for the Scotland squad and called up by Billy Stark as a caretaker manager for a friendly against Luxembourg. Davidson replaced Jordan Rhodes in the 89th minutes, making his international debut.
In the 2010–11 season, Davidson retained his first team status. He scored his first goal of the season, in the second round of the Scottish League Cup, in a 2–1 win over Morton. However, in a match against Rangers, on 28 August 2010, Davidson got injured and was stretchered off in the first half after clashing with team-mate Marcus Haber although he managed to recover from the injury ahead of the next match. Davidson scored in the quarter-final of the Scottish League Cup, in a 3–2 loss against Celtic.
On 13 May 2010, Davidson signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2013.
The 2008-09 season was a breakthrough season for Davidson. He scored six goals, including a brace against Dunfermline Athletic, in a 4-2 victory on March 10, 2009. The club was facing financial difficulties at the end of the season and was on the brink of liquidation. However, a deal was made to save them, and they were eventually promoted to the Scottish Third Division. Davidson and Dave Mackay were both linked to Motherwell and Dundee shortly after the season ended. Davidson stated that he believed the SFL had wrongly punished Livingston and blamed Angelo Massone for the club’s fall to the Scottish Third Division. Davidson stated that he had a strained relation with Massone who once offered him the opportunity to be tried with Parma. However, Davidson declined.

After playing for Leithen Vale in the 2006-07 season, Davidson began his senior career at Livingston. He made his debut in 2006-07 against St Johnstone. In the 85th minute, he was substituted for Graham Dorrans. Shortly after his Livingston debut in January 2007, Davidson was loaned to Cowdenbeath, a Scottish Third Division club. As his contract was set to expire at the end of the 2012–13 season, talks over a new contract started in mid-December by offering him a two-year deal. Davidson turned down a new deal and also rejected a pre-contract offer from Rangers, announcing his intention to move to England. Later in the season Davidson said he wanted to lead the club to third place and refused to rule out staying for another season. On the last game of the season, Davidson played his last match, in a 2–0 win over Motherwell and after the match, he expressed his “sadness” at leaving the club.
