Muhamed Sacirbey is one of the most popular and richest Attorney At Law who was born on July 20, 1956 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Muhamed Scirbey was born Muhamed Salibegovic in Sarajevo (Yugoslavia). Both Sacirbey’s parents are doctors. His father, Nedzib Sacirbegovic (born in 1926) was an activist of the “Young Muslims” and was close to Alija Izetbegovic. Sacirbey and Izetbegovic were both imprisoned after they opposed the communist government in SFR Yugoslavia.
Sacirbey was asked by the United Nations to help Bosnia, which had just begun in April 1992. He was Bosnia’s first ambassador at the United Nations. His term began on May 22, 1992 when Bosnia and Herzegovina became members of the UN. He made passionate pleas for lifting the arms embargo against Bosnia and Herzegovina’s government, as well as repeated requests to the UN to defend the so-called safe zones from indiscriminate attack. In a bid to get support, he traveled around the globe. In his book “My Life”, former President Bill Clinton, who referred to him in private as “Ambassador Mo”, wrote about Sacirbey: “Holbrooke, his team, landed in Split, Croatia, where they briefed Muhamed Sacirbey on our plans. Sacirbey, a handsome, fit man, was the American’s most prominent face of Bosnian television. He had been a Tulane University student and was a former football player. He had long longed for greater American involvement in the nation he loved and was happy that it had finally arrived.
In May 1995 the foreign minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Irfan Ljubijankić was assassinated. Sacirbey was appointed to replace him for a brief period. Sacirbey also had become Bosnia’s Agent before the International Court of Justice leading the country’s genocide case against Serbia/Montenegro from outset from 1993 to 2001. Sacirbey was also instrumental in seeing the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and was informal representative as well as witness many years later from 2003 to 2009.

In 2001, the BiH government began to investigate Sacirbey on suspicion “of abuse of office” for purportedly expending funds for purposes not authorized including Bosnia’s “genocide case” against Serbia/Montenegro before the International Court of Justice.
Sacirbey is the younger brother of Omar, a Boston journalist. In Sarajevo, a street was named after Aziza their mother in the 1990s.

Muhamed “Mo” Sacirbey, born July 20, 1956, was a Bosnian-American businessman, lawyer, and diplomat. In the 1990s, Bosnia and Herzegovina made him their ambassador to United Nations. Sacirbey was briefly the third and final Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The family fled SFY Yugoslavia in 1963 because of his father’s anticommunist politics. His mother had been in prison for her activities. They lived briefly in Turkey and Libya until they settled in the United States in 1967. The Sacirbegovic family was born in Parma, Ohio. It is a suburb of Cleveland. They became naturalized citizens in 1973. At this time, the family name was changed from Sacirbey to Sacirbey. Sacirbey was a student at Valley Forge High School, Parma Heights, Ohio. “Mo”, who was elected to student council before he became U.S. citizens, was a highly acclaimed football player and academically recognized. He was also accepted to Harvard University among other highly acclaimed universities.
In November 1995, he accompanied the Bosnian delegation to the peace negotiations in Dayton, Ohio. The settlement came to be known as the Dayton Accords. During the talks Sacirbey actually delivered his resignation as Foreign Minister to protest what he perceived as accommodation of Serbia’s strongman Slobodan Milošević and legitimization of ethnic cleansing. Subsequently, Sacirbey has alleged that a “yellow light” had been given to Milošević by US and European representatives to overrun the UN and NATO protected “safe areas” of Srebrenica, Žepa and Goražde. He has testified to such effect before the ICTY.
