Mourad Meghni is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on April 16, 1984 in Paris, France. Meghni was conceived in Paris on 16 April 1984 to Ali and Anna, an Algerian mother and a Portuguese father. In an interview, his father spoke out about how Mourad was attracted to football from a young age. He used to take him to the stadiums often to support his older brother Said. His father spoke out about how Mourad was able to join several football training schools, including Tursi in France and FC Nantes in France. He made remarkable and rapid progress as a player. His mother said during the interview that it was her tradition to visit Algeria each year with her husband and all her family members, as well as friends, in Ouled Hadadj.

Meghni, thirteen years old, joined Le Centre Technique National Fernand Sastre. At 16 years old, he decided to leave the academy and sign for Cannes. He stayed for only one season. Meghni then moved on to Bologna. On 20 July 2002, he played against FC BATE in Intertoto Cup. He finished second in the 2002 Intertoto Cup with Bologna, losing to Fulham by an aggregate score of 5-3. Meghni signed a co-ownership agreement with Lazio for EUR1.75m. The club also paid Bologna EUR1.75m for full ownership in the summer 2008. While playing for Lazio, he won the 2008-09 Coppa Italyalia and the 2009 Supercoppa Italiana.

On 12 August 2009, Meghni was selected for the first time to join the ranks of the Algerian national football team, in a game facing Uruguay (Algeria won on a score of 1–0).

Meghni is a former French youth international and was a part of the team that won the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship, held in Trinidad and Tobago. He opted to play for Algeria at senior level in August 2009, taking advantage of FIFA’s new ruling, allowing him to change his national allegiance despite being older than 21 years of age. He made his debut for Algeria in a 1–0 win on 12 August 2009, against Uruguay. He went on to play for Algeria at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

Meghni, then 16, decided to leave Clairefontaine Academy and sign for Cannes. However, due to financial difficulties Cannes were quickly relegated back to amateur football. Meghni was a poor player at Cannes, as he was often on the reserve team’s substitute bench. However, Bologna signed him up at 16 on a free transfer. Meghni sees his time at Cannes as an opportunity to learn, as he was only 16 when he signed up for the club.
