Morris Eugene Lukowich, a retired professional ice hockey player from Canada, was born June 1, 1956. From 1976 to 1985, he was a Winnipeg Jets player in the World Hockey Association (WHA), and the National Hockey League. He later played for the Boston Bruins (NHL) and Los Angeles Kings (NHL). Lukowich, a left-winger, played in 582 games during eight NHL seasons. He scored 199 goals and helped with 219 assists, for 418 points.

Lukowich made a comeback in 1982-83 after suffering from injuries. He was a part of 69 games, scoring 22 goals and 43 points. In 1983-84, he rebounded a bit and reached the 30 goal plateau again with 25 assists. In 1984-85 Lukowich was traded for Jim Nill in Boston.

Lukowich represented Canada at the 1993 Spengler Cup Tournament, and briefly re-emerged as a roller hockey player in 1994, playing several games with RHI’s Calgary Rad’z.

The NHL absorbed four of the WHA’s teams in 1979 when the WHA collapsed. These teams were limited in their ability to protect only a small portion of their roster. Winnipeg retained Lukowich as one of the few remaining players. Although the early NHL years were tough for the Jets’, Lukowich quickly became the team’s star and was named Winnipeg’s captain for 1980-81. In his first two seasons, he scored 35 goals and 33 goals, respectively. He then had his best NHL season in 1981-82 when he scored 43 goals and 92 goals. He was invited to play on the line with Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier and the NHL All Star Game for the second consecutive year.

Lukowich was a junior hockey player with the Medicine Hat Tigers three years. He had a great season in his last year. He scored 65 goals and collected 142 points in 72 games. He was 47th in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft by Pittsburgh Penguins. In the 1976 World Hockey Association Amateur Draft, he was also selected 47th. Lukowich played in 36 games over parts of two seasons with the Bruins. He was placed on waivers early in the 1985–86 season and was picked up by the Los Angeles Kings, where he finished his NHL career. He played one additional season in Italy in 1987–88 before retiring from professional hockey.
