Miles Joseph, born May 2, 1974, is an American soccer coach. He was also a former player and earned three caps for the United States national soccer team. He played six seasons in Major League Soccer, and part of one in Major Indoor Soccer League. He was also part of the U.S. soccer team in the 1996 Summer Olympics. He is currently an assistant coach with the Portland Timbers.

Miles was an assistant coach at Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake for four years. Jason Kreis, New York City FC’s head coach, knew Joseph well from their time at Real Salt Lake and named Miles Joseph the first assistant coach for New York City FC. New York City FC was established in 2015 as a Major League Soccer club.

Miles was selected by the MetroStars in the second round (12th overall), of the 1996 MLS College Draft. He was with the MetroStars until he was traded to the Columbus Crew in May 2000 for a second-round 2001 draft pick. Joseph completed the 2000 season with Columbus, before being traded to Dallas Burn for 2001. The Burn released Joseph at the end of the season. Miles was signed by the Dallas Sidekicks on February 13, 2003 as a free agent. After playing seven games for the Sidekicks during the 2002-03 season, Miles left the team to become assistant coach of the Siena College women’s soccer team.

Miles was born in Massachusetts and graduated from Shenendehowa High School, New York in 1992. He won three state championships during his high school career. In the fall 1992, he entered Clemson University.

Joseph was selected to the U.S. roster at the 1993 U-20 World Cup in Australia. He scored a goal during the 6-0 win over Turkey. The U.S. finished group play at 1-1-1 and qualified for the second round, where it lost to Brazil. The 1996 Summer Olympics saw the U.S. name Joseph as its soccer coach. The team finished 1-1-1 again, but failed to reach the second round. Joseph was awarded his first cap by the U.S. national soccer side when he replaced Cobi Jones in the 89th minutes of the 3-1 victory over El Salvador on August 30, 1996. In a tie with Guatemala, he was again used as a substitute in the second half of the game on December 21, 1996. After starting his last national team match, a 2-1 defeat to China, he was substituted at halftime by Cobi Jones.

On November 2, 2015 New York City FC, disappointed with not making the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs, announced they had parted ways with Head Coach Jason Kreis as well as Joseph and assistant C. J. Brown after just one year of management and would be looking for a new head coach for the following season.
