Lasa was born in Legorreta (Gipuzkoa). Lasa was a local Real Sociedad youth academy graduate and made his La Liga debut at the age of 18, when the Basque side was coached during the 1988-1989 season.
Lasa, a promising young talent, signed for Real Madrid in 1991-92 for EUR1.7 million. This was to replace Rafael Gordillo, who is now 82 years old. He struggled initially and was eventually barred by Francisco Villarroya. However, he became the starter after scoring in the Copa del Rey final against Real Zaragoza in 1993.
Lasa joined Real Sociedad’s neighbours, Athletic Bilbao, in 1997–98, being an important first-team element as they achieved a runner-up place. He played very little in his final three seasons and retired altogether in 2004, after Segunda División spells with neighbours Real and Ciudad de Murcia.
