McClendon was selected by the Brewers in round 10 of the 2006 amateur entry draft. He was drafted out of Seminole State College of Florida, Sanford, FL. He made his professional debut in 2006 for the Rookie League Helena Brewers. He was promoted to the Class A West Virginia Power in 2007, and then to the Class A-Advanced Brevard County Manatees in 2007. McClendon was with the Manatees for the entire 2008 season. He was promoted to Double-A Huntsville Stars in 2009. He spent the majority of 2010 with Huntsville and Triple-A Nashville Sounds. He was called up to Milwaukee on August 12 to replace LaTroy Hawkins, who had been placed on the disabled lists. On August 14, he made his major league debut pitching against the Colorado Rockies. He was the first Brewers pitcher to begin a career with at minimum three perfect innings.
McClendon signed a minor-league deal with the Colorado Rockies on June 3, 2014.
