Hoeffel was a collegiate hockey player for the Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s ice hockey team. He played high school hockey with the Hill-Murray Pioneers of Minnesota. The New Jersey Devils selected him in the second round (57th overall), of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He made his professional debut with the Albany Devils, a New Jersey AHL affiliate.
Hoeffel signed a one-year AHL contract as a free agent with the Springfield Falcons on July 25, 2014. Hoeffel played a role as a checking line player for the Falcons during the 2014-15 season and scored a career-high 9 goals in 62 games.
