Michael Norman Hazen, born January 7, 1976, is an American professional baseball executive. He is currently the executive vice president of Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks and general manager. He is a Princeton University graduate, and he was formerly a minor league outfielder. He previously served as the senior vice president and GM of the Boston Red Sox.

Hazen accepted the position of executive vice president and general manger of the Arizona Diamondbacks on October 16, 2016. He will also serve as the top baseball operations executive for the team.

In February 2006, Hazen was appointed director of player developmental by the Red Sox. Eight months later, Farrell became the team’s pitchers coach. Hazen was then named vice president, amateur scouting and vice president, player and assistant general managers (under Cherington) in 2012. In 2012, he was promoted to vice-president and assistant general manager under Cherington. He was then made a senior vice-president and assistant GM in 2015. Dave Dombrowski, the Red Sox’ president for baseball operations, named Hazen general manager on September 23, 2015. While Dombrowski was the final authority on baseball decisions, Hazen was a top aide who had input into the club’s decision making. His one-year tenure in the post saw Boston win the American League East Division championship in 2016, but fall to the Indians in the ALDS.

Hazen was born in Weymouth (Massachusetts) and grew up near Abington. Hazen played four years of varsity baseball with the Princeton Tigers. He was selected by the San Diego Padres at the 31st round in 1998 Major League Baseball’s draft. He slugged.307 and had 62 hits in the Rookie-level Pioneer League in 1998 with the Idaho Falls Chukars.
