His district includes Roseville and Sterling Heights in central Macomb County. He was previously a member of Michigan House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003.
Switalski was elected to Roseville City Council 1989. He was also elected Macomb County Commissioner 1992. He was elected to the Michigan State House of Representatives in 1998. He represented the 27th District. He was elected to the Michigan State Senate in 2002. In 2006, he was re-elected. Switalski declared that he would challenge U.S. Representative from the 12th District Sander Levin to be the Democratic ticket for this position on March 22, 2009. Switalski was defeated by Sander Levin in the August 3, 2010, primary by approximately three to one. [1]
Switalski was a Sports Editor at the Utica Advisor, C&G Newspapers and also contributed to the Detroit Free Press as well as the Kansas City Star. From 1985 to 1993, he was Chief of Labor Relations at Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant.
