Michael Nugent is one of the most popular and richest Non-Fiction Writer who was born on June 1, 1961 in Dublin, Ireland. Donald Clarke, Irish Times’s editor, stated that Atheist Ireland refused an invitation to participate in the Government’s commemorations for the 1916 Rising. He said that Nugent’s team couldn’t have looked more out of touch if he wanted to ban Christmas.

Nugent was working on a project about the Gospels at primary school when he began to question the “comic-book” nature of the Bible. He was a student at St. Aidan’s C.B.S. Secondary school at Whitehall, Dublin. He received his degree in visual communication from the College of Marketing and Design in

1983. It is now part of Dublin Institute of Technology. He was elected president of the college’s students’ union in 1983 and a student representative on the Dublin City Council Vocational Education Committee. He was defeated in 1984 when he ran to be the education officer in Union of Students in Ireland. This was in opposition to Joe Duffy (then president of USI), who is now a broadcaster at RTE. He went on to study product development and became a freelance designer.

In 1988, Nugent co-founded the New Consensus peace group with his partner Anne Holliday and Michael Fitzpatrick. He also chaired the group. Its launch meeting in April 1989 announced its aims as challenging ambivalence about murder in Northern Ireland, and promoting a democratic, pluralist and non- sectarian society with integrated education, a bill of rights and revision of Articles 2 and 3 of the Irish Constitution.

In 1992, Nugent highlighted that Veritas, a bookshop owned by the Catholic Bishops, was breaking the law by selling an anti-abortion book, Closed by Joseph Scheidler, which contained abortion clinic contact details for potential protestors. Under Irish law at the time no contact details of any abortion service could be published.

Nugent was a spokesperson in the 1980s for a campaign to stop the convictions of Tallaght youths for assault and robbery. Taoiseach Charles Haughey promised Nugent and his family that new evidence would not be overlooked in 1990. The government issued a new law in 1993 to allow this and the case was declared a miscarriage.

He soon left the PDs, saying that he was disillusioned with the clientilist system and that he believed in the need to tackle the Northern Ireland problem on a cross-party basis.
