She was elected a member of parliament for Barcelona in 2004 as an independent at the ninth place on the Barcelona list of Socialist Party of Catalonia under Jose Montilla. She joined the PSC in 2008, where she is a member of the Federation of Barcelona’s group of Gracia.
In the legislative elections of 2008 occupied the eleventh position of the list for Barcelona and renewed her seat as in the legislative elections of 2011 to which it concurred in the position number eight.
A professor of Constitutional Law at the Pompeu Fabra University, she has been a member of the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th terms of the lower house.
She first came into contact with politics during her student years. In different interviews, she explained that her first contact with politics was when she was a student and received a grant from Generalitat to study at the university. Josep Mir was her thesis supervisor and told her that Narcis, the then first secretary of PSC, was searching for someone to coordinate his secretariat. Batet worked with him for two-years. She was the director of the Carles Pi i Sunyer Foundation for Autonomous and Local Studies from 2001 to 2004.

She was professor of Administrative Law at Pompeu Fabra University from 1995 to 1998. She was also a professor in Constitutional Law until she was appointed Minister in 2018. To allow her to remain in the United States, she was awarded a German Marshall scholarship in 2007.
