Meg Rosoff, an American writer, was born 16 October 1956 in London. Her best- known work is the novel How I live Now (Puffin), 2004. It won the Printz Award, the Guardian Prize and the Branford Boase Award. The Whitbread Awards shortlist also included it. Just in Case (Penguin 2006) was her second novel. It won the British librarians’ annual Carnegie Medal, which recognises the best children’s book of the year published in the UK.
Rosoff, 32 years old, returned to London in 1989 and has lived there since. She worked as a copywriter in a number of advertising agencies between 1989 and 2003. After her younger sister’s death from breast cancer, she began writing novels. In 2004, her young adult novel, How I Live Now, was published. This was the same week that she was diagnosed with breast carcinoma. The Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize was awarded to it. It also received the American Library Association’s annual Michael L. Printz Award, which recognises the best book for teens based solely on its literary merit. She published Meet Wild Boars in 2005, illustrated by Sophie Blackall. Just in Case, published in 2006, won the British Carnegie Medal and German Jugendliteraturpreis. Rosoff’s third novel, What I Was, was published in August 2007. This was followed by two additional collaborations with Blackall: Wild Boars Cook, Jumpy Jack, and Googily. Another novel, The Bride’s Farewell was listed among the top ten books for young adults published in the American adult market in 2009.
