She was the founder of Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan, which was assassinated on February 4, 1987.
Kamal was assassinated at Quetta, Pakistan, on February 4, 1987. Although reports vary on who the assassins might have been, it is believed they were agents of the Afghan Intelligence Service KHAD or the Afghan secret police. Two men who were convicted of Kamal’s murder and associated with KHAD were hanged by Pakistani authorities in May 2002.
Kamal was married with Faiz Ahmad (Afghan Liberation Organization leader), who was assassinated by Gulbuddin Hukmatyar agents on November 12, 1986. Their three children are still missing.

Boris Ponamaryev led the Soviet delegation to the Congress. Participants cheered Meena’s victory sign. In opposition to the Afghan Marxist government, she would eventually move to Quetta, Pakistan and establish her RAWA organization there.
In a special issue of Time magazine on November 13, 2006, included Meena among “60 Asian Heroes” and wrote that “Although she was only 30 when she died, Meena had already planted the seeds of an Afghan women’s rights movement based on the power of knowledge.”
