Maxie Parks is one of the most popular and richest Sprinter who was born on July 9, 1951 in Arkansas City, Arkansas, United States. Maxwell Lander (“Maxie”) Parks, born July 9, 1951 in Fresno (California), is an American former athlete.
The USA boycott of the 1980 Olympics scuttled any hope of Olympic success. However, Parks’s form was such that he reached only the semi-finals at the Olympic trials.
He was the 1976 USA Olympic Trials winner. Although he didn’t win a medal in the individual race (he finished fifth), he did win a gold medal in the 4 x 400m Men’s relay race together with Benny Brown and Herman Frazier at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. He competed in the UCLA relay race for many years during the 1970s. He was a member of the 1977 IAAF Athletics World Cup. In 1977, he anchor the 4×400 m relay team to a win that seemed to be unassailable. However, he fell 150m from the end with a severe pulled hamstring. The USA was denied a win in the team competition due to this unfortunate injury. East Germany won the race. Parks didn’t compete in that season again, but he did return in 1978 to capture the national title at 400m.
