Simon was a regular player for Australia’s under-23 team (the Olyroos), in 2008. He scored a hat trick for Australia under-23 (the Olyroos) in a 3-1 victory over Republic of Ireland in Malaysia in May 2008. Simon was initially named an alternate player for Olyroos in the 2008 Olympic Games. Simon was then added to the squad after Archie Thompson was hurt mid-tournament. In the team’s last match against Ivory Coast, Simon was a substitute for Archie Thompson in the second half.
On 30 December 2011 it was announced that he had signed a three-year contract worth $400,000 per year to play for K-League side Jeonnam Dragons. It was later announced that Jeonnam Dragons paid a transfer fee of $170,000 to acquire the player.
On 16 May 2013 it was announced that he had re-signed with the Mariners.
After a strong performance for the Olyroos in May 2008, Simon was selected by Pim Verbeek to play for Australia’s senior team for a qualifier for the 2010 World Cup against Iraq. In January 2009, Simon made his Socceroos debut against Indonesia in Jakarta in an Asian Cup qualifier. He was playing in an Australian team consisting primarily of A-League players. Although the game ended in a draw, Simon had a goal disallowed for offside. Five weeks later, he made his second appearance against Kuwait for Australia in the same competition. Simon made his first appearance for Australia in the Socceroos’ match against Kuwait.

In the week before their 2006 Pre-Season Cup match against the Newcastle Jets, Simon was added to the Mariners’ team. Simon was then reinstated to the squad following Nik Mrdja’s heel injury in round 19. During the 2006 NSW Winter Super League campaign, he was a star for the Central Coast Lightning. Simon enjoyed a solid 2007-08 season with Mariners, even though he did not score any goals. Simon scored a header in the opening league game of the 08-09 season. This would be the beginning of a wonderful season.
Simon began his senior career at Central Coast Lightning, before joining the Central Coast Mariners in 2006. Simon signed with K-League club Chunnam Dragons in 2012.
